Carl Baranowski

Vice President and Chief Legal Officer

Carl Baranowski, Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, Office of Legal Affairs, University of Texas at Tyler (UTT). Mr. Baranowski leads legal aspects of institutional strategic and tactical initiatives, advises senior leadership, manages the legal function and oversees the work of outside counsel.

Before UTT, he served ten years as counsel to a $3B multistate hospital system. Prior positions include general counsel at companies in diverse industries and private practice with major law firms. Co-author of one of the most popular desk references on technology law for attorneys, Representing High-Tech Companies, Law Journal Press (©1999, 2021), Mr. Baranowski is also author of the first comprehensive, worldwide survey of biotechnology law, The Regulation of Hazards and Property Rights in Biotechnology, Stanford Research Institute (©1983).

He possesses a strong technical background, having earned three degrees from MIT in four years, as well as the juris doctor and master of business administration degrees from Stanford University.
