Courtney Smith

District Director & Policy Analyst

Courtney Smith serves as District Director and Policy Analyst for Texas Senator Bryan Hughes.  Courtney has worked for Senator Hughes in various capacities since 2000.  Although Tyler is where she offices, Courtney works in the sixteen counties of Senate District One in Northeast Texas.  She enjoys traveling in these areas, meeting with constituents and local leaders about issues facing their communities.   In addition to her duties as district director, she also works as a policy analyst on legislation pertaining to the Texas Family Code and serves as the Committee Clerk for the Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs.

Courtney grew up in Longview, Texas, graduating from Pine Tree High School.  Her college studies were completed at Kilgore College and Wiley College.

Courtney is passionate about East Texas.  She is a graduate of Leadership Programs in Longview, Henderson, and Marshall.  In 2020, she served as President of the Henderson Area Chamber of Commerce.  Courtney has volunteered with Junior Achievement, Lions Club, and Red Cross. In 2016, Courtney was awarded the Louise Jacks Outstanding Young Woman of the Year award from the Henderson Area Chamber of Commerce for her work in the community.

Courtney and her husband Shane reside in a rural area of Rusk County between Henderson and Carthage.  In her free time Courtney enjoys gardening, watching football, and all things farm life.
