Heather Spencer is the Education Coordinator at the UT Health Inpatient Rehab Hospital in Tyler, TX. She believes that everyone deserves excellent care and the chance to reach their full potential whether that be the patients on the unit or her team members. Heather is responsible for educating and orientating all new hires to the nursing team including RNs, LVNs, and PCTs by providing them a unit orientation that makes each team member feel prepared and welcomed to the team. She also provides on time education and material that needs to be taught right away to assist staff to prepare for changes in practice, processes, or skills. She can often be found at the nurse’s station assisting staff with the EMR or solving challenges that may arise. She has over 14 years of nursing experience that span different specialties such as pediatric, digestive disease, endoscopy, oncology, clinical documentation improvement, wound care, and community health as a school nurse. She has been in many different rolls in her nursing career these include bedside nurse, charge nurse, manager, and now educator. She received her Associates in Nursing from Tyler Junior College. She was on the Presidents list all four years she attended Capella University and graduated magna cum laude with her Masters in Nursing. She loves helping people meet and exceed their goals whether it be at the bedside in their practice or taking that next step to further their own education. Leadership and education are Heather’s passions. She believes it takes transformational leaders and educators to achieve the goal of excellent patient care for the people of our communities through serving, teaching, and leading our current healthcare teams and the ones that will follow. She has an amazing husband of 13 years and 3 amazing sons that keep her on her toes. She is a home town girl that was born in Tyler and raised in Whitehouse. Heather is known for her passion for helping others and problem solving skills.
