Jeff Johnson
Director of Operations
Public Radio for East Texas 99.7 KVUT

For nearly four decades, Jeff Johnson has been creating audio, video, images and text that help people make sense of the world around them and make better decisions for their lives.  Jeff is currently the Director of Operations for 99.7 KVUT “Public Radio for East Texas” a community service of the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Texas at Tyler. Jeff oversees all on-air and technical functions of the station and its digital components.  Working at the network level and in national-syndication, Jeff has won seven awards from the Associated Press Broadcasters’ Association. He has served with or led teams that have won four national awards for “Radio Station of the Year” from broadcast industry associations.  Jeff’s work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and on multiple television networks. He’s spoken to thousands of people around the country, including speaking to an audience of more than 10,000 people on the National Capital Mall in Washington, D.C.  As a disabled veteran of the U.S. Air Force  and the only person you’ll likely meet who both makes a living with his voice and is a throat cancer survivor Jeff regularly writes and speaks as a disability advocate. This activity took on a new importance to Jeff two years ago, when he learned that he also has an Autism Spectrum Condition commonly referred to as Asperger’s Syndrome. Jeff is a vocal advocate for Autism acceptance and, over the years, has come to learn quite a bit about the Americans with Disabilities Act as it relates to employment law.  Jeff is a 2002 and 2013 graduate of The Excelsior University of New York, with degrees in Political Science and Communications. He and his wife are both graduates of Leadership Tyler. Along with their daughter, they’ve called Tyler home since moving here in 2008.
