Dr. Jeffrey Pearl is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon who specialized in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Pediatric and Adult Heart Transplantation. He graduated from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles where he went on to complete his general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery residencies, and his pediatric and transplant fellowships. Following his training he joined the team at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where he worked as a Congenital heart surgeon, started and was Surgical Director of a successful pediatric Heart Transplant program, and created a successful NIH and American Heart Association funded Research Lab. His research focused on myocardial preservation, ischemia and hypoxia and reperfusion, and on organ preservation for transplantation among other areas. Following his tenure in Cincinnati he moved to Phoenix Children’s Hospital as Section and Division Chief of Cardiac Surgery and Professor of Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. His long-standing interest in education became one of his leading passions and over the past decade he transitioned more and more into medical education working as a Program Director for two well-known Physician Assistant Programs, as Co-Director of Clinical Anatomy at the UofA Medical School in Phoenix, as well as being a principal faculty in Doctoring and Simulation. He has participated as principal investigator on numerous lab and clinical trials including Phase 1 and 2 studies for Pharma. Dr. Pearl has over 100 peer review publications and presentations, book chapters, and has thousands of lecture hours covering a wide range of topics. He has performed hundreds of organ transplants and procurements and thousands of heart surgeries during his career. He joined the University of Texas Medical School at Tyler as the Assistant Dean for Structure and Simulation and Director of Clinical Anatomy this July after a successful tenure at the University of California Davis. Dr. Pearl’s focus in recent years is geared towards training the next generation of highly skilled compassionate healthcare providers who are dedicated not only to their patients and their health and well-being, but to addressing the significant healthcare disparities that exist in our Country. He is very excited to join the outstanding team at UT and improving healthcare throughout East Texas.
