Jon Stone began his career with the Tyler Police Department in 2016 and currently serves as a detective assigned to the agency’s Crime Scene Unit. He enjoys working with complicated camera and lighting equipment, the smell of freshly opened sterile cotton-tipped swabs, and visiting spaces with a story to tell. As a Crime Scene Investigator (CSI), Det. Stone’s role includes working crimes against persons and property crimes cases that require a specifically trained criminalist to document, collect, and analyze physical evidence. Prior to joining Tyler PD, Jon spent 4 years serving in the US Coast Guard, and 6 years in the US Air Force, with specialties ranging from maritime law enforcement, explosive ordinance disposal, the operation and employment of remotely piloted aircraft, using energy drinks as currency during deployments, and generally doing what his supervisors told him to do. He is a graduate of the University of Arkansas, and is blissfully married to UT Tyler’s current QEP Director, Dr. Katie Stone.
